Specifications of type of data collection: 
The 2004 APIS utilized the 2003 Master Sample for household-based surveys of the PNSO, comprising 2,835 primary sampling units. A PSU consisted of one barangay or a group of 2 or more contiguous barangays with at least 500 households. The 2004 APIS used a stratified multi-stage stratified survey design. This involved selecting the PSUs at the first stage, selecting enumeration areas within the sample PSUs at the second stage and selecting housing units within sampled Eas at the third stage.

The APIS contains combination of qualitative and quantitative questions to attain its objectives.

% of families (below 40% income strata and above 60% income strata) with: access to health facilities; access to basic education; access to safe water; access to sanitary toilet; strong housing units without working children.
