Purpose:
Reinvestigation of any decision, advice or recommendation made, including those given to a Minister, or any act done or omitted by any department of government or any other activity, or by officers or members of such department or authority in the exercise of administrative functions.
The need arose as a result of the growth of the Executive and the consequent inadequacy of close supervision of the bureaucracy.
The general law and human rights treaties are involved in the investigation.
Where there is a fault in administration, recommendations are made to the department /authority to correct such faults. An annual report and additional special reports as necessary are submitted to Parliament.
The target population is the population of Trinidad and Tobago, around 1.300.000 people.
