Jun 01, 2009
Jun 04, 2009
This workshop, held in Cairo 1-4 June 2009, was organized in response to the increased demand and interest in how to develop and implement comprehensive governance assessment frameworks.
This demand and interest comes from the growing recognition of the importance of governance to the achievement of the MDGs, the rapid increase in the number of governance assessments conducted, accompanied by innovations in the development of new tools and methods for collecting governance-related data that could be replicated in different countries.
Accordingly the objectives of the workshop are to present and discuss a proposed Governance Assessment Framework for Egypt, strengthen the capacities of the Social Contract Center staff, UNDP and partners on best practices and lessons learned in national efforts to monitor governance, raise understanding and awareness of governance measurement approaches and to identify important entry points to respond to the various needs at the country level for monitoring the quality of democratic governance.
