The OECD Development Centre serves as an interface between OECD Member countries and emerging  and developing economies. Its central role is to contribute expert analysis to development policy  debates, and to provide a platform for dialogue around issues such as gender equality. (...)

The Development Centre is now in the process of updating the SIGI for 2014. This includes the revision  of the detailed country analysis and rescoring of the variables that make up the Index. The overall  objective of this consultancy will be to contribute to the revision of SIGI by updating the country analysis  on discriminatory laws, social norms and practices related to gender inequality. The revised country  notes will be published on the SIGI website (www.genderindex.org) and may also be published as a  volume in 2014. This consultancy will start on 16 September 2013 for a duration of four months.  

We are looking for an enthusiastic consultant with a background in gender, women’s rights and  development who meets the following criteria:
Excellent research and writing skills in English.

  • Ability to absorb and synthesize complex information quickly.
  • Expert knowledge of key sources and literature on women’s rights and gender equality.  
  • Specialist knowledge of the African and/or the Asia-Pacific region would be an asset.
  • Proven experience in writing articles, papers or reports on women’s rights and gender equality  in developing countries.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
