Funding from the Global Programme

Latest news, 21 Nov 2008
The Global Programme First Round of Funding has now closed. The country window of the Global Programme provides funding for 10 or more UNDP Country Offices to support country-led democratic governance assessment initiatives over the period 2009-2011, with a maximum of US$400,000 for each country. Through the Democratic Governance Practice Network, countries were invited to submit proposals by the end of September 2008. The response was very strong: 39 proposals were submitted [13 LAC, 10 Africa, 7 Europe/CIS, 6 Asia-Pacific, 4 Arab States], confirming the high demand for support in this area. Proposals were evaluated in accordance with criteria set forth in the Fast Facts for Country Offices document. Consultations were held with individual Regional Bureaux/Regional Centres, and consensus was reached on country priorities as well as allocation of funds. For countries where the Global Programme has not allocated the full amount requested, the Global Programme will assist in mobilizing additional resources if necessary.
